Description: Based on the very popular Stratego board game, Legions is a game that lets the player pit his skill in battle against those of one of the world’s most formidable war machines of Antiquity: the Roman Legion. Now imagine two such mighty forces confronting each other. Although rebellions were rare, they did occur and Legions is about such an event. The roman legions were not like modern armies, national forces. They were personal armies of highly trained and ruthless, professional warriors that owed allegiance only to their commanders. When two or more of such Warlords fell out with one another, the Empire could erupt into virtual Civil War. Legions deals with such an event where two roman legions oppose each other. Fierce battles in which seasoned and experienced soldiers often fought hand to hand combat were fought in open fields. The choice of the battlefield was therefore important and often decisive in the outcome of the struggle. Spies and scouts were sent in advance to ensure that maximum advantage was taken from the layout of the battlefield. The Roman Legion can best be compared to the modern army's division or brigade and its success lays mostly in it operating as "one unit-one game plan" with the unique goal of taking over the opponent legion’s flag or defeating the opponent’s legions with your troops. It is your skill as the Commander in Chief of the roman legions in devising and developing the tactics and moving the troops forwards which will spell either success or failure of the enterprise. Keep your mind alert to foresee or counter any moves the opponent may make ! As with any complex strategy games, Legions can be played at different levels of increasing complexity to improve your strategy as a Commander. With an Artificial Intelligence engine designed by Vincent De Boer, three times Stratego world champion, Legions is a game that will not exhaust its possibilities and will provide you with hours of satisfying entertainment.
